Local Schools Named Best in the Country

U.S. News & World Report, in collaboration with School Evaluation Services, a K-12 education and data research and analysis business that provides parents with education data on schoolmatters.com, analyzed academic and enrollment data from more than 21,000 public high schools to find the very best across the county and recognized Jack Britt High School and Cape Fear High School a bronze award.

2009 Hiring Plans Show Positive Signs for Fayetteville

The Fayetteville metro area ranks lowest in North Carolina for percentage of employees who say they expect to cut jobs in the first quarter, according to Manpower Inc. 73% of employers plan to at least maintain current staff levels, higher than the national average.

State of the City Report Available

The 2008 State of the City Report is available at www.mayorchavonne.com. The report highlights the accomplishments of 2008 as well as many of the city’s goals planned for 2009.

Police Department Receives Accreditation

The Fayetteville Police Department recently received the Meritorious Award of Distinction, giving the department its sixth reaccreditation endorsement.

Local Athlete Named Best in the Country

Jack Britt High football star Xavier Nixon was named the High School Maxwell Award winner among offensive linemen. The award recognizes him as the top high school offensive lineman in the entire nation.

Nixon helped Jack Britt reach the state 4-AA championship game this year. 

Airline Travel Up

Business has taken off at Fayetteville Regional Airport with the number of passengers taking off at the airport up 14 percent over last year. Those extra passengers mean additional airport revenue and extra federal grants for capital-improvement project at the facility

Large Recycling Carts Available  

Larger 96-gallon recycling carts are now available to super recyclers in the city in response to the overwhelming success of the recycling effort. The cost of the larger cart is $54. It can be delivered for an additional $11.
