82nd Command Group Returns The 82nd Airborne Division headquarters served as the nucleus of Combined Joint Task Force-82 with responsibility for Regional Command East, which has 14 Afghan provinces and shares 450 miles of border with Pakistan. The regional headquarters oversees an area about the size of Ohio with 10 million Afghans and 30,000 NATO troops. Over 13,000 soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division are expected to return from service in Haiti, Iraq and Afghanistan over the next few months. That is the equivalent of the population of Spring Lake returning to Fort Bragg |
Fayetteville Builders Recognized Two Fayetteville companies are back on Builder magazine’s “Top 100” list, and they’ve moved up in national rankings. The list ranks U.S. builders by the number of home closings completed in 2009. With 455 closings, H&H Homes holds the Number 56 spot, up from 99th in 2008. Caviness & Cates Communities, with 386 closings, ranked 68th, up from 89th the year before. The two builders were among only 26 of the top 100 that reported an increase in closings in 2009, and were among only 16 that reported revenue gains. |
Parking Deck Work to Begin in January Construction of Fayetteville’s first public parking deck downtown is scheduled to start in January. The deck is critical to the city center’s continued development and growth. The landmark funding arrangement for the deck is the result of a collaborative partnership between the city, PWC, the county, downtown property owners and the federal government. |
Existing Home Sales Increase That amount was well above April 2009, when previously occupied homes sold for $130,268, according to figures from the Fayetteville Regional Association of Realtors. |
American Airlines Becomes 3rd Carrier at Airport Fayetteville Regional Airport leads the state in a recent USA Today airport seating capacity survey, which studied if airlines were adding or reducing seats. Airlines have increased seating capacity at Fayetteville Regional Airport by 42.4 percent during the last two years. In comparison, domestic capacity is down 12.4 percent nationwide since January 2008.

Local Area Bucks Foreclosure Trend Foreclosures in Cumberland County dropped 13 percent from 2008. This reduction compares favorably with the rest of the state where foreclosures more than doubled during the same period. This is another sign of the relatively strong local economy.
